Methodist Book Centre Celebrates 70 Years
Webteam: 27th January 2016 11:38am
The Methodist Book Centre celebrated their 70th Anniversary in November 2015. They are now part of Christian Resources for Life and each member of the team is committed to enabling others to know the joy of the gospel of Jesus Christ as well as the power of God through the work of the Holy Spirit. The Methodist Book Centre has a country-wide reputation for the sale of Christian books, music and gifts, and is directly supported by the experience and vision of the Methodist District of Chester and Stoke-on Trent. They are ecumenical in outlook and understanding of the Christian Church. They have a wide experience in meeting the needs of individuals as they seek to know more about the Christian faith or wish to deepen their own spirituality.
Where are they?
The Centre is located in Gitana Street which is almost in the centre of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent where they have been providing books and other resources to churches and Sunday schools for over 70 years. However, they are more than a bookshop and have been described as an oasis in the middle of a busy retail and commercial environment.
Opening hours are — Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.
What do they offer?
Their mission is to be part of the overall purpose of the Christian church. All funds earned are used for that purpose once costs are met. They are a 'not for profit' organisation and the ecumenical nature of the product range recognises the variety of emphases that there are within the Christian family.
Their range of resources includes:
One of the largest selections in the country of Bibles in a variety of versions and presentations
Commentaries and theological study
Aspects of Christian living
Worship books — a wealth of music books, prayers for public and private devotions
Children's books and gifts
DVDs and CDs
Gifts for special occasions — baptisms, weddings etc
Gifts, food etc to encourage the use of fair trade resources
Here is a vast selection of food and gifts specially chosen to encourage the use by individuals of fairly traded products and to support the working conditions of the producers involved.
They are also in contact with many publishers ensuring a speedy supply of books currently in print.
They will be pleased to organise a bookstall at any special conferences or events you may be running.
